Chic Gardens contd

(Silver) Designed by students from Brinsbury College, this garden was a challenge to combine mathematical parameters with design elegance. All aspects of the garden echoed 'three'. Triangular shapes beneath the canopy, three hardwoods for the sculpture, a three-sectioned walkway or platform and planting was all in threes or groups of three.
Planting emphasised foliage - spiky leaves contrasting with globes of clipped foliage; pots of succulents and hostas, and the bold leaves of fatsias. Purple and orange textures were reflected in the foliage colours.
Green and Misty Light
(Silver) Borders outlined in frosted green bottles gave a hint of the theme for McNeil Designs. A copper pond was cleverly designed to be covered by a table, making it safe for children.
The planting was all moisture-loving plants and the result was a lush and green garden.
The Other Golden Jubilee
(Silver) Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Monk Sherborne & District Horticultural Society this garden was, surprise, themed in golden foliage and flowers.
A panel of water against a vibrant orange wall, flanked by fastigiate Irish yews, provided a centrepiece. A circular apth wound around low planting of golden leaved hostas and foliage plants while brilliantly coloured azaleas, R. 'Golden Jubilee', hemerocallis and more added to the showy planting scheme.
Modern Monolith
(Silver) 'Exotic New Zealand driftwood sculptures' were billed as enhancing this garden of textured mini landscapes. Thames Valley Horticultural Society's objective was to stretch the imagination of gardeners polished wood and tree ferns, hostas, heucheras and foliage plants were set against white rendered walls sculpted into curving shapes. A path led to a rear seating area.
The Chic Hip and Groovy Dance Pad
(Silver) A living space as much as a plant space, this garden, designed by students of Warwickshire College, used modern materials and spherical shapes to create a fun and lively contemporary garden.
A topiary circle and copper screens encircled the garden and a slate floor provides for dancing or dining. Lighting was developed to further enhanced the theme. Flowering strelitzias (Bird of Paradise plants) were grown in steel 'drums' and more orange came from geums and annuals.
Gallery Garden
(Silver) Artist Judy Wiseman designed a pair of steel frames holding a rather shaggy, living work in grasses.
A planted trough, more grasses, held high against a rendered wall was supported on a steel strut. In the foreground a parterre in pebbles and grasses was executed in a circular motif.
